STRANGLE KOJAK PRESS RELEASE
08 September 2008

BIRMINGHAM BAND MAKES NATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITION HISTORY

Birmingham band, Strangle Kojak, have, for the second year running qualified for the final of the Surface Unsigned competition which is being held this Saturday 13th September at the Birmingham Carling Academy and they are the only band to ever have achieved this. The competition this year was on a far greater scale as it covered three areas, Birmingham, Manchester, and London and started with 12.000 bands which have been scaled down to the final 14. Strangle Kojak are a group of 4 good looking seventeen year olds lads from Birmingham, who have been together now for just over 18 months. They write all their own music and always pull out the stops at their gigs for their increasing fan base. They are also playing at the Birmingham Artsfest on Sunday 14th September at The Malthouse, Brindley Place at 1.30pm, where they will be giving away free signed guitar to one of their lucky fans and a couple more prizes will be given out.

They also won a competition on Red TV earlier this year. The competition was a 12hr live music event with 21 bands competing for text votes so that they could progress to the final 4 and to then be judged by music industry professionals. During the course of the day they got to play on four separate occasions playing seven different songs in total. As a band, they have come a long way from the school kids who opened for The Beat and Neville Staples at The Birmingham Carling Academy, through last year’s Surface Unsigned competition and to where they are now. They have grown in talent and confidence which certainly shows when they play live which is really what they love. They are certainly a band worth going to see and will definitely go far. More information about the band can be found on their website www.stranglekojak.com.

Band members left to right: Aaron Rigg 17 Bass/Vocals, Ashley Neal 17 Guitar/Vocals, Omar Elkaseh 17 Guitar/Vocals, Max Such 17 Drums,

David Such, Manager Strangle Kojak

LIVE 12-HOUR UNSIGNED BAND SHOWCASE ON RED TV
01 May 2008

On Monday 5th May Ditto Music and M.A.S. Records are hosting a live 12-hour unsigned band showcase on RED TV, SKY CHANNEL 186. There will be no commercial breaks, no rehearsals, and no script.

The show is hosted by Pete Bennett (Big Brother winner 2006) and will showcase twenty unsigned artists. There will be a judging panel on the day, comprised of Sue Buckler (Jive, Warners), Christine Kellog (Tunetribe) and Shimm1 (marketing director of TME 08), who will select one artist from the twenty. The winning artist will perform live on Ditto TV’s first show set to air on Saturday 10th May; perform with Pete and other major artists at TME Birmingham in front of 2000 people; and also receive a free worldwide chart eligible digital release.

The most unique and exciting thing about this event is that there will be a chance for an unsigned Midlands act to perform on the show. All you have to do is simply text your band’s myspace details to Red TV; the number will be announced during the show. The winning artist will be hand picked by Red TV and invited into the studio to perform live on air.

Please note that the TV studio is based in Birmingham so the winning band must be able to get to Birmingham within two hours to be able to perform on the show.
